2200 East State Street
Hermitage, PA 16148
On January 16, 1980, Penn State Cosmetology was established at 912 East
State Street in Sharon, PA by Ruthy Barris Kirila. At that time, she had
nineteen years experience as a salon owner and stylist. There was no
financial aid for the four students enrolled that first day. The school
employed one supervisor and one instructor. The building only measured
2,700 square feet. In two years, PSC ACADEMY earned National Accreditation.
PSCA doubled in size by 1984 and in 1990 moved to 2200 East State Street in Hermitage, PA. The latest addition to the school was in 1997 when the
school took over the space previously used by Baskin Robbins.
Determination was the main factor in our growth and success. Our staff is
proud of the daily escalating student enrollment and the facility that now
measures 7,600 square feet.
Financial Aid is now available to all courses thru PHEAA or a local private lender. Pell Grants are also available to many in our cosmetology program. We are approved by the US Department of Education, and accredited by NACCAS (National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences), the American Business Women's Association, Salon Owners Association, the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology and Who's Who in America.
In 2003, Penn State Cosmetology Academy was purchased by Julie A. Kirila
Craig, daughter of Ruthy Barris Kirila. The school name also changed to
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS CAREER ACADEMY, INC dba PSC ACADEMY. We continue to
offer courses in Nail Technician, Cosmetician, Cosmetology, and Cosmetology Teacher.
The main goal of PSCA is to provide a quality education for a wise future in the beauty industry. Our staff is proud of our graduates. They have gone on to be stylists, salon owners, platform artists, and company
Sincere gratitude for our success goes to our staff.
